What will your child be…

Pre-Prep at MOULSFORD

Our Pre-Prep school

Moulsford Pre-Prep (3-7 years) became co-educational in September 2023, and now gives girls the opportunity to benefit from a Moulsford experience.

The overriding aim of our Pre-Prep school is to ensure that every child feels safe and secure in their learning environment. Our small class sizes naturally allow each pupil to work closely with teachers and assistants to form effective working relationships and to build solid friendships with peers.

Our stunning location and outdoor space provide a wonderful backdrop and the freedom to play and explore. A rich and varied curriculum provides stimulation and breadth of discovery, looking both to the past and to the future, preparing today’s children for tomorrow’s world. Art, Judo, Drama, Modern Foreign Languages, Music, PE and Forest School are all taught by specialist teachers within our Pre-Prep. Individual music lessons can be arranged in a variety of instruments, for example piano, drums and guitar. All pupils have lessons in ICT and use interactive technology daily in other lessons.

Moulsford is a thriving independent prep school in South Oxfordshire. We’re also proud to have a new state-of-the-art Pre-Prep building & Pre-School which opened in
September 2022.

The best way to measure our success is to visit the school, soak up the atmosphere for yourself, and meet the pupils and staff who make up our warm and very special community.

HEAD'S WELCOME

Welcome to Moulsford, an independent day and boarding school of 370 children aged 3-13 years, set in tranquil and picturesque grounds on the banks of the River Thames surrounded by the rolling hills of South Oxfordshire.

At Moulsford, the message is straightforward. We want to ensure that every child is listened to, supported, encouraged and given the opportunity to flourish. We strive for excellent academic achievement, with foundations laid in the Pre-School to promote curiosity and a love of learning. Our down-to-earth, family-focussed approach embraces the fact that children of this age should be having fun at the same time as learning.

Our co-educational Pre-School (3-4 years) and Pre-Prep (4-7 years) offers girls and boys the opportunity to benefit from a Moulsford experience. The Prep School (7-13 years) is currently all boys, but is moving towards co-education and will welcome girls to Year 3 from September 2026.  By 2031, the whole school will be fully co-educational.

As a school and as teachers, our goal is to engage, enthuse and inspire our pupils in all that they do. From maths to music, reading to rugby, and chemistry to kayaking, we aim high and encourage all of our pupils to ‘go for it’ and give of their best in all that they do.

What our community says

We got a real sense that the pupils love learning something new every day and that there is always ‘something for everyone’. This is borne out by comments from happy parents who view the teaching as ‘excellent’.

Good Schools Guide

Admissions

We aim to make the Admissions process as friendly and straightforward as possible. The majority of children join the school in September, although it is not uncommon for pupils to join in either January or April.

Academic success

While we do genuinely believe in educating the ‘whole’ child, our primary focus is in ensuring children receive an excellent academic grounding and that a love of learning is instilled at Prep-School age.  Our results speak for themselves, and we send a high proportion of pupils to academically selective schools at 13+, either through the Common Entrance examination or the Academic Scholarship.

Pastoral care

We want pupils to be happy, feel valued and enjoy coming to school. Our aim to provide exceptional pastoral care permeates every aspect of life within the school.

Expectations are high, in terms of manners, discipline and general behaviour, and the children respond accordingly.  There is a strong rapport between staff and pupils, and a sense of mutual respect which comes through working together in a supportive and caring environment.
